You might have seen references to your ‘top three signs’ in posts about astrology. While most people are familiar with their Sun sign, two other key signs—your Moon sign and Rising sign - play equally significant roles in shaping who you are. Together, they offer a more complete picture of your astrological identity.
Understanding Your Sun Sign

Your Sun sign is probably the first thing you learned about astrology. Determined by the position of the Sun at the time of your birth, it represents the core of who you are. Just as the Sun is the centre of our solar system, your Sun sign is central to your identity, governing your basic personality traits, ego, and general outlook on life.
For example, if your Sun is also in Leo, you're likely to be confident, creative, and maybe a bit dramatic. Leo is known for being bold and enjoying the spotlight. However, not all Leos are the same, because your Sun sign is just one piece of the puzzle.
The Moon Sign: Your Emotional Core

While your Sun sign reveals your outer personality, your Moon sign delves into your inner world—your emotions, instincts, and subconscious. Just as the Moon influences the tides on Earth, your Moon sign governs the ebb and flow of your emotional life. It’s what makes you feel secure and comfortable, often revealing itself in moments of vulnerability or deep connections with people who are close to you.
If your Moon is in Libra, you might value harmony and balance in your relationships. You could be a natural peacekeeper, striving for fairness and avoiding confrontation. This might seem at odds with a more fiery Sun sign like Leo, but it just shows the complexity of our individual personalities. For example, while my Leo side might crave attention and excitement, my Libra Moon prefers peace and tranquillity making me an introverted extrovert.
Your Rising Sign: The Mask You Wear

Your Rising sign, also known as the Ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the exact time of your birth. It represents the image you project to the world – the first impression you make, your appearance, and how you instinctively react to new or stressful situations. Unlike your Sun and Moon signs, which are more about who you are inside, your Rising sign is more about how others may perceive you.
For example, if your Rising sign is Virgo, you might come across as organized, detail-oriented, and practical (this is how I earned the nickname “Monica!”). Even if you have the bold and charismatic qualities of a Leo, your Virgo Rising could make you seem more reserved and meticulous, especially when meeting new people. I often describe myself as both the star of the show and the backstage manager rolled into one!
Bringing It All Together
Understanding your top three signs provides a more comprehensive view of your astrological profile. It explains why you may not fully relate to the typical traits of your Sun sign alone.
By exploring your Moon and Rising signs, you gain deeper insights into your emotional needs and the way you present yourself to the world.
